What’s the link between King George III and Fast Shipping?

550 feet or 168 meter above sea level, the hill of Bellewstown is renowned for its racecourse and annual meetings always held in July.

Four days of horse racing and fun at one of the most scenic racecourses in Ireland on the Hill of Crockafotha in Co. Meath, with views of the Mountains of Mourne to the north and the Irish Sea to the east.

We do not know exactly when racing started in Bellewstown, but the first record of races appears in the August edition of the Dublin Gazette and the Weekly Courier in 1726.
George Tandy, a former Mayor of Drogheda, persuaded King George III to sponsor a race at Bellewstown in 1780. The race was called His Majesty’s Plate and was valued at £100.

On the fourth and final day of the July 2018 Festival Fast Shipping Ireland generously sponsored the Handicap Hurdle.
15 days after his win  at Down Royal Racecourse, Monarch won the Fast Shipping Bellewstown Handicap Hurdle with Mark Walsh doing the steering on this superb one mile and one furlong left handed course.

We enjoyed a wonderful summer evening with clients, suppliers and colleagues.

A special thanks to Simon Mulvany for making this year’s festival once-again one to remember!
